Waskasoo Community Association to host screening of local documentary ‘Love, Oran’

Aug 5, 2026 | 9:37 AM

The Waskasoo Community Association is set to host a free screening of the local documentary “Love, Oran.”

The screening will take place on Saturday, August 15, at the Waskasoo Gazebo on the corner of 58 Street and 45 Avenue.

The film will begin at dusk, and those interested are asked to bring a chair or blanket and dress for the weather.

The documentary, created by filmmaker Colin Scheyen, was inspired by letters found during a basement renovation at a home in Waskasoo.

The letters were written by a young woman named Oran to her father, and outline the difficulty and stigma of being unmarried and pregnant over 70 years ago.

Scheyen described the film as a ghost story of love. He added that it explores Oran’s loving and tender relationship with her father, her unconditional love for her children, and reminds us of the importance of connection.

The screening will take place a few hundred metres from Oran’s home, which is also the house where Scheyen grew up.
