Severe thunderstorm watch for Red Deer area

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Red Deer area.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says severe weather is possible this afternoon.

Per ECCC:

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms are likely to develop today. Some of these thunderstorms will become severe this afternoon and this evening. Some travel delays are possible. Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Don’t drive through flooded roadways. Secure loose objects. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Large hail can cause significant damage and injury.
