Lacombe to host Alberta Day celebration Aug. 29

Lacombe will host a city-wide celebration for Alberta Day on Aug. 29.

Not to be confused with Heritage Day at the start of August, Alberta Day events in Lacombe are supported by a $5,000 grant from the Government of Alberta and will be completely free.

“Alberta Day is an opportunity to celebrate our province’s rich history, diverse cultures, and strong sense of community,” said Mayor Thalia Hibbs.

“We’re grateful to the Government of Alberta and our community partners for helping create a day of free activities that brings people together to celebrate what makes Alberta, and Lacombe, such a special place to call home.”

Highlights of the day include a hometown concert featuring Albertan talent, an Indigenous art class and chalk murals, museum experiences, family skating, football, pickleball and badminton, a free WIBIT public swim, and a variety of exhibits and interactive activities celebrating Lacombe’s history, creativity, and community spirit.

Partners include the Lacombe Museum, the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre, and the Lacombe Art Guild. There will also be events hosted by the Mary C. Moore Public Library, the Lacombe Pickleball Club, the Lacombe Explosion Football Team, the Rimbey Spartans, Breton Cougars, and Hanna Hawks.

Organizations planning free public activities on Aug. 29 that would like to be included in Alberta Day promotions are encouraged to contact Sandi Stewart at sstewart@lacombe.ca by Aug. 4.
