Red Deer U19 softball team headed to Western Canadian Championship

The U19 Red Deer Rage will vie for a major title at the upcoming Western Canadian Championship.

The tournament takes place Aug. 6-9 in Ladysmith, B.C.

The Rage earned their way into the ship by winning silver at this past weekend’s U19B provincials in Devon.

Red Deer came up just short in the final, falling 4-1 to Medicine Hat, who will also compete at Westerns.

“Competing at Westerns is a tremendous achievement and a proud moment for the athletes, their families, and the entire Red Deer softball community,” a team spokesperson says.

“Red Deer Rage U19 Team [Coach Duncan] McKay will now prepare to take on the best teams in western Canada. Their success highlights the strength of the local softball community and the opportunities available for young athletes in Red Deer and central Alberta. The athletes are excited to showcase their skills, continue their journey, and proudly represent their community and province on the western stage.”

At provincials, the Rage were perfect through five games en route to the final.
