Red Deer Jayman Built MS Walk set for May 31

May 14, 2026 | 5:30 PM

The 2026 Red Deer Jayman Built MS Walk is just over two weeks out, and fundraising efforts so far have helped organizers reach nearly half of their goal.

The MS Walk, which is set for Sunday, May 31, will take place at the Gateway Christian School with two-kilometre and five-kilometre routes. The one-day event will also take place in over 50 communities across Canada.

Event registration is at 9 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m., followed by the walk. Those still interested can register or donate online at msspwalk.donordrive.com.

Brenda Rosychuk, manager of community fundraising for Western Canada with MS Canada, said holding these walks every year across the country is very important.

“Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world… The reason why we’re raising these funds is because we want to connect the MS community and increase our quality of life by providing programs, advocacy and really important research that’s happening across the country,” Rosychuk said.

MS Canada has a national goal of raising $4.3 million with over 14,000 participants. In Red Deer, they hope to raise $43,000 and get 130 participants out to the walk. As of Thursday, they’ve raised nearly $20,000.

“People living with MS across Canada are at the heart of everything we do. The money raised ensures that people affected by MS receive access to quality information and support that they need, whichever community they live in,” Rosychuk said.

The MS Walk was introduced 35 years ago, and since then it has grown into a national event and annual highlight for everyone who’s involved.

Multiple Sclerosis, she said, is a neurological disease of the central nervous system and is a very unpredictable and progressive disease that affects everyone differently.

For over 75 years, MS Canada has invested over $233 million into research, and as a result, she said the organization is advancing the understanding of MS every day and how the work they do can improve the lives of those living with the disease.

“Really, in the last two decades we’ve seen extraordinary progress in how we understand, diagnose, and treat MS.”
