Pro rodeo belongs in Red Deer.
So say organizers at Westerner Park who have created a new event, Red Deer Pro Rodeo, which goes May 21-23 at the Marchant Crane Centrium.
The family-friendly event will feature all your favourite competitions and many of the biggest names on the rodeo scene today.
Dianne Finstad, a longtime voice of central Alberta rodeo, explains the event will be part of the Pro Rodeo Tour of Canada, adding that means there’ll be some extra money in it for competitors.
“That’s why they will want to come and be here to get the money and get tour points to help them get to the tour finals, and ultimately to the Canadian Finals Rodeo,” she tells rdnewsNOW and The Everything Red Deer Podcast.
“I think we want to build on the momentum we really felt was starting to gain ground when the CFR was here. We didn’t want to leave it too long to bring rodeo back. It’s a wonderful place to showcase our central Alberta athletic talent in the sport, and also be able to have fun with people.”
To get the crowd even more involved, the three-day extravaganza will feature ‘Double Down on Denim Thursday,’ ‘Paisley and Prints Friday,’ and ‘Old School Cool’ Saturday.’
