Lacombe reminds riders to keep pedal-less dirt bikes off the roads
The City of Lacombe is asking users of electric dirt bikes, and others, to be mindful that they are illegal to ride on roads, sidewalks, pathways, in parks, and other public spaces.
According to the city:
Not all electric-powered bikes are treated the same under provincial legislation. Bicycles and power-assisted (electric) bicycles are permitted, provided they have operable pedals, can be powered by human effort, and meet provincial requirements. These are considered bicycles and may be used on roads and pathways in accordance with traffic rules.
However, they say, electric dirt bikes and similar vehicles which do not have pedals or cannot be powered by the rider are not permitted.
