Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs earn second victory at Esso Cup

The U18 AAA Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs improved to 2-0 at the Esso Cup following a shutout victory on Monday.

The Chiefs defeated the Moncton Rockets 2-0 with goals from Reece Lacina and Rylee Cruse in Dieppe, New Brunswick.

Goaltender Quinn Smith earned her first shutout at the U18 Women’s National Club Championship tournament.

“Quinn was awesome,” said Chiefs head coach Don Morrison in a media release. “She hasn’t played a game for a little over a month, with our playoff run and the way the games were going. She stepped in, stuck with her training. Her practices and her attitude have been phenomenal. An unbelievable team player and just did a great job. She’s super calming in net; it’s like she’s been in these games before, but she never has, and it’s amazing.”
