Victims identified in Red Deer, Morinville after investigation into Calgary man for alleged child sex crimes

A Calgary man has been arrested for alleged child luring and other sexual offences, following an investigation that involved the Red Deer RCMP.

According to a media release from Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), police began investigating after three victims contacted police.

As a result, ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit arrested 23-year-old Malik Buccini-Small on March 17. They were able to apprehend the suspect following an extensive investigation that involved the Calgary Police Service, Red Deer RCMP, and Morinville RCMP.

Police say all of the cases were similar in nature because they involved the suspect allegedly luring young girls through social media apps and making demands or threats for sexual content.

“In one instance, the victim felt so threatened and in danger that she called 911,” they wrote in the release.

The man was charged with 21 offences in relation to the three victims; however, ICE say preliminary evidence suggests there are likely more victims.

The victims were identified in Red Deer and Morinville and range in age from seven to 15-years-old.

“Our priority is to protect children and help those that have been victimized. We have digital evidence that points to other victims and we are hoping they can come forward and share their information with police,” said Const. Mackenzie Jordan, ICE.

Buccini-Small is believed to have used usernames such as “iggypup” or “wakanda4ever”, and aliases “MJ” or “007.”

He is also involved in coaching youth sports and at the time of his arrest was an assistant coach of a girls’ hockey team in Calgary.

Buccini-Small remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.
