Red Deer area reaches record high temperature for February 5

Some record-setting temperatures made their way through central Alberta Thursday, with Red Deer reaching a new record high for February 5. 

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the daytime high in Red Deer on Thursday was 9.0 degrees Celsius, edging out the previous record high for February 5 of 8.9 degrees Celsius set in 1924. Records in this area have been kept since 1904. 

Elsewhere, the Rocky Mountain House area reached 13.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, surpassing the old record for February 5 of 11.7 set in 1963. Records in this area have been kept since 1915. 

The Sundre area, meantime, hit 13.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday, beating the old record of 11.3 set in 1996. Records in this area have been kept since 1993.
