Maskwacis RCMP arrested five people last Sunday after searching a vehicle that contained multiple weapons and drugs.

Police responded to the call on Jan. 11 after they received a report of threats with a firearm, and on arrival, found the vehicle outside of a residence in the community.

Police saw drug paraphernalia in view and arrested all five occupants of the vehicle before searching it.

As a result, they found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, 48.5 grams of methamphetamine, and other weapons, including knives, batons, and bear spray.

“Firearms continue to be a serious concern in our Maskwacis community,” said Inspector Richard Mckay Commander of Maskwacis RCMP, in a media release. “Last year, Maskwacis RCMP seized over 87 crime guns. Our commitment to taking these dangerous weapons, along with drugs, remains our top priority.”

Police charged a 41-year-old woman from Maskwacis with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a controlled substance, nine counts of failing to comply with release conditions, and three counts of weapons offences.

They charged a 45-year-old man from Maskwacis with two counts of failing to comply with release conditions, three counts of weapons offences, and possession of a controlled substance.

RCMP also charged a 32-year-old woman from Maskwacis with two counts of failing to comply with release conditions, three counts of weapons offences, and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say three were taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody for future court dates at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

In addition, police charged a 35-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman from Maskwacis with three counts of weapons offences and possession of a controlled substance.

Both were taken before a Justice of the Peace and released with their next court date set for Feb. 5, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
