Jury trial scheduled for Red Deer woman charged in northern Alberta homicide

A jury trial has been scheduled for a Red Deer woman accused in the death of a man in northern Alberta over two years ago.

Sara Dawn Aleisha Kappo, 37, is scheduled for trial in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench from Nov. 16-25, 2026.

Her two co-accused, meantime, have their matters scheduled to return to Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench for arraignment on Feb. 2, 2026. Those being Teyenna Angel Rae Kappo, 32, and Dallas Goodswimmer, 24, both residents of Valleyview, Alta.

It was on Nov. 8, 2023, when Valleyview RCMP responded to a report of a male who had been assaulted and was suffering from serious lacerations to his body at a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Alta, just west of Valleyview.

Mounties say he was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police say an autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim, 36-year-old Aaron Bellcourt, had died as a result of his injuries and the death was deemed a homicide.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) took over the investigation and conducted a lengthy investigation. MCU, with assistance from the Valleyview RCMP Detachment, Grande Prairie RCMP Municipal Detachment, Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), Western Alberta District GIS, as well as Alberta RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Interview Assistance Team, conducted the arrest of three suspects on May 24, 2024.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP laid first-degree murder charges against Sara Kappo, Teyenna Kappo, and Dallas Goodswimmer.

Mounties say they were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody.
