Blackfalds town council has been sworn in, with new Mayor Laura Svab, Deputy Mayor Brenda Dennis and councillors Jim Sands, Shane Hanson, Ryan Brown, Aaron J Hoyte, and Cory Twerdoclib all taking the Oath of Office.

The Oath of Office was administered by Suzanne Alexander-Smith, KC, Barrister and Solicitor of Chapman Riebeek LLP.

“We have a great mix of experience, and fresh perspectives joining council for the next four years,” says CAO Kim Isaak.

“I know that I not only speak for myself but also the town employees in saying that we are very excited to work with these dedicated and passionate members, and assist them in carrying out their strategic visions and long-term priorities for the community.”

Mayor Svab, who defeated incumbent mayoral candidate Jamie Hoover, shared her anticipation for the new term.

“Our new council is excited to get started. The residents in Blackfalds have put their trust in us, and I know that this council has listened,” she says.

“We are looking forward to the new Communications Policy that will be coming in the next six months. Our council wants to be transparent, and I know each one of them brings different ideas to the table on what our communications might look like.”

During the meeting, council made appointments of council members to Blackfalds municipal boards and set the schedule for council meetings for the next year.
