MLA Jason Stephan given mandate letter for Constitutional Affairs portfolio

Oct 29, 2025 | 10:22 PM

Red Deer-South MLA Jason Stephan, who is also serving as Alberta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, has been given a mandate letter from the premier for that latter role.

The letter, signed off by Mickey Amery, minister of justice and attorney general of Alberta, says Stephan is to support him in advancing the ministry’s priorities.

Key expectations include:

  • Communicating with Albertans, identify constitutional threats and advocate for constitutional reforms calculated to support and protect freedom and prosperity for Albertans;
  • Monitor and analyze federal legislation and policies for potential encroachments on provincial jurisdiction and recommend responsive action;
  • Identify proposals for modernizing intergovernmental agreements to ensure they reflect Alberta’s constitutional prerogatives and policy objectives; and
  • Support me in my work to protect the freedom and prosperity of Albertans from harmful invasions of Alberta’s constitutional jurisdiction by Ottawa.
