Blades edge Rebels 4-2 in Saskatoon

Oct 3, 2025 | 9:50 PM

The Red Deer Rebels applied pressure late in the game, but were unable to claw their way back in a 4-2 loss to the Saskatoon Blades.

The Friday night tilt at the SaskTel Centre saw plenty of action on both ends of the ice, but special teams played an important role in the result.

The Blades scored two power-play goals on four attempts; meanwhile, the Rebels were held scoreless on two opportunities.

Rebels netminder Peyton Shore made 27 saves on 31 shots, and Blades goalie Evan Gardner had 14 on 16 shots.

The Rebels got on the board first with 2:22 remaining in the opening frame. Forward Ty Coupland scored his second of the season after he knocked in the rebound off a shot from Beckett Hamilton.

The Blades found the equalizer nearly five minutes into the second period while on the man advantage. Forward Hunter Laing fired a one-timer in from the left circle over the blocker of Shore on the powerplay.

Saskatoon recorded its second power-play goal of the evening later in the second period. With under three minutes to go, forward Rowan Calvert scored on the man advantage after a pass in front of the net was redirected in.

With 15:14 left in the game, the Blades made it 3-1 after Zach Olsen knocked in the loose puck in front of the net.

However, the Rebels answered 52 seconds later. Hamilton redirected a shot past the netminder from defenceman Keith McInnis to pull back within one.

Blades extended their lead 4-2 after a goal from Triston Mitchell-McElhone, and despite a late-period push by the Rebels with the goalie pulled, the Blades held on for the victory.

The Rebels now fall to 1-3 on the season so far, but have a shot to get back on track tomorrow night in Prince Albert when they take on the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre at 7 p.m.
