Town and County of Stettler release candidates list for upcoming municipal election

The Town of Stettler and County of Stettler have confirmed their list of candidates for the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 20.

This comes after the nomination period closed at noon on Monday.

In the Town of Stettler, there are two mayoral candidates including Gord Lawlor and Dean Lovell. In addition, there are nine nominations for councillors including Kurt Baker (Incumbent), Cheryl Barros (Incumbent), Sharon Fischer, Keith Friendship, Dusty Myshrall, Jonathan Nichols, Scott Pfeiffer (Incumbent), Travis Randell (Incumbent), and Wayne Smith (Incumbent).

A canddiate forum is set for Oct. 9 at the HUB at 7 p.m. hosted by the Stettler Public Library and Stettler Regional Board of Trade.

Meantime, advance voting will take place from Oct. 14–17 at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Town of Stettler Office.

On election day, eligible voters can head to the Stettler Community Hall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, the County of Stettler will have elections in five wards and two councillors were acclaimed including Larry Clarke in Botha-Gadsby (Ward 3), and James Nibourg in Erskine South-Warden (Ward 4).

They were acclaimed because they were the only candidates to submit a nomination.

The candidates for each ward are listed below:

Ward 1: Byemoor-Endiang

Tyler Ainsworth and Clint Walker

Ward 2: Big Valley

Dave Grover and Wade Hunter

Ward 3: Botha-Gadsby

Larry Clarke

Ward 4: Erskine South-Warden

James Nibourg

Ward 5: Stettler

David Uden, Allan Gano, and Darryl Keibel

Ward 6: Erskine-Buffalo Lake

Justin Stevens and Rosalind LaRose

Ward 7: Donalda Red Willow

Paul McKay and Janet Adam

Polls will be open on election day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. A list of polling station locations will be available on Stettler County’s website.

Voters will be able to vote in the advance polls on Thursday, Oct. 16 or Friday Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the County of Stettler Administration Building.

Voters may request a mail-in ballot by calling or emailing the Returning Officer, Doreen Nixon, and requesting a special ballot.
