Maskwacis RCMP seize weapons and drugs after traffic stop

The Maskwacis RCMP arrested two people and seized weapons and drugs following a traffic stop near the Louis Bull First Nations.

On April 12 they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle allegedly fled from police before the suspects abandoned it and ran into a nearby residence.

Police reported observing drug paraphernalia and methamphetamines through the window of the vehicle.

Once the RCMP obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and the residence, they said they located multiple firearms, magazines and ammunition. In addition, they also allegedly found military style attack vests and a stolen vehicle.

As a result, police arrested and charged a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman from Louis Bull First Nations.

“The Maskwacis RCMP would like to thank community members and leadership from all four nations of Maskwacis and their continuous support in helping get illegal firearms away from the community and out of the hands of those who are using them for illegal purposes,” said Insp. Richard Mckay, detachment commander of the Maskwacis RCMP.

The man was charged with four counts of breaching firearms prohibitions; unauthorized possession of a firearm; flight from peace officer; and driving while unauthorized.

Meanwhile, the woman was charged with multiple firearms offences.

They were brought before a justice of the peace. The female was released on conditions while the male was remanded into custody.

They appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice in Maskwacis on April 15.
