Sylvan Lake Protective Services building to get roof repaired
Roof repairs for the RCMP and Protective Services building in Sylvan Lake are on track to begin this week after town council received a report on the emergency funding procurement for the project for information on June 11.
The Town was notified of a leak in the building’s roof in mid-April this year. The situation was classified as an emergency as the leak could result in further damage and more expensive repairs to the building, which authorized chief administrative officer Sean Durkin to approve the fund procurement quickly.
Three quotes for the work were requested and two were received. One quote was for $101,700, and one for $108,500. Public works staff marked the higher quote, from Goodman Roofing in Red Deer, as a more worthwhile investment as it included 10-year certified warranty with the Alberta Roofers Construction Association and the use of new materials.
In anticipation of potential additional costs, the project was given a budget of $120,000, before GST, which will be taken from the Building Maintenance Reserve. The projected final balance for the fund for the end of 2024 is $659,678.
