Sentences handed down for B&E at home in Breton

May 22, 2024 | 12:47 PM

Two people charged in connection to a break-in in Breton last year have been sentenced.

Levi Rain, 29, of Breton, and Christopher Minnett, 48, of Fort Saskatchewan, were sentenced on May 8 in a Breton courtroom.

Rain, who originally faced 22 charges, was sentenced to 90 days in jail — with 74 days served — on one count of break and enter a place and commit an indictable offence therein. All others were withdrawn.

Minnett originally faced 18 charges, and was sentenced to 240 days in jail — with 265 already served — on one count of break and enter a place with intent to commit an indictable offence therein.

Minnett’s other charges had been dropped in January 2024.

Police stated at the time of the incident that a property owner had arrived at his home and interrupted two male suspects attempting to gain access to his home.

It was said the males proceeded to ram the homeowner’s vehicle in an attempt to flee.

RCMP said they were located and stopped in a vehicle that was said to have been stolen out of Wetaskiwin the month prior. The car was also said at the time to have had a license plate stolen out of Edmonton.

The men fled on foot into a wooded area but were located shortly thereafter with help from Police Dog Services.
