Feb 28, 2024 | 9:43 PM

In their last game this season against the Swift Current Broncos, the Red Deer Rebels lost 5-1 on Wednesday at the Art Hauser Centre.

Before tonight, the Rebels were 2-1-0-1 versus the Raiders.

The Raiders got a head start in the first period, with Sloan Stanick scoring within the first 40 seconds on Rebels goaltender Rhett Stoesser, bringing the scoreboard to 1-0.

Past the halfway point, Prince Albert’s Doogan Pederson scored, doubling the team’s lead 2-0.

The Raiders were greatly outshooting the Rebels 15-2 after 20 minutes of play.

In the middle frame, Prince Albert’s Brayden Dube scored midway through, pushing the team ahead 3-0.

At the 20-minute mark, each team earned a roughing penalty, with Grady Martin for the Raiders and Derek Thurston for the Rebels, while the latter also earned two-minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, to be served by another player.

It was the Rebels this time who outshot the Raiders 16-10 in the second period.

Beginning with a two-man disadvantage, the Raiders’ Aiden Oiring scored 21 seconds into the final period. The power play goal put the home team 4-0 against the Rebels.

At 15:01, Red Deer finally got on the scoreboard with Frantisek Formanek scoring a rebound goal off Prince Albert’s netminder Max Hildebrand. His 19th goal of the season from within the crease was assisted by Kai Uchacz and Jhett Larson, with the team now behind 4-1.

However, with the Rebels’ Formanek sent to the box for high sticking, the Raiders’ Niall Crocker scored a power play goal at 16:11, bringing home a 5-1 win.

Prince Albert slightly outshot Red Deer 10-9 in the third period.
