Jury trial scheduled in fatal central Alberta shooting

A two week jury trial has been scheduled for a man charged in a fatal shooting at Maskwacis last year.

Shayden Trey Rain, 22, of Maskwacis, is scheduled for a jury trial in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench from June 10-21, 2024.

It was about 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2022, when Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a shooting that had allegedly occurred at a local convenience store.

The victim, a 27-year-old male who’d been living in Maskwacis, was taken to hospital but later died.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, which took over the investigation, charged Shayden Trey Rain with second degree murder.

RCMP are wanting to speak with anyone who was in the area of the Samson Mall on Sept. 1, 2022, that witnessed what occurred or has information related to the incident.
