Red Deer’s unemployment rate jumps in January
Red Deer’s unemployment rate for Jan. 2023 is 7.7 per cent, according to Statistics Canada.
That’s up a whole point, from, 6.7 per cent, in Dec. 2022, and up from 7.4 per cent a year ago.
Meantime, Alberta’s rate increased for the fourth month in a row, this time by 0.9 per cent to 6.0 per cent. That increase is equal to nearly 21,000 jobs, a release from ATB Economics says.
ATB, notes, however, that because growth in the number of people searching for work increased faster than total employment, the rise was closer to just 0.4 per cent.
