27 Months, 10-Year Firearms Prohibition

Red Deer man sentenced following erratic driving incidents in a stolen vehicle last summer

A Red Deer man has been sentenced to over two years in jail for his part in a series of erratic driving incidents with a stolen vehicle last summer.

Kyle Macleod, 26, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court this week to a total of 27 months behind bars along with a 10-year firearms prohibition.

He was convicted on four counts following his trial on January 11, 2023, including possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of property over $5000, possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.

It was on Aug. 23, 2022 when Red Deer RCMP say that between 1 and 4 p.m. that day, they received several reports of an erratic driver moving throughout the city.

This ultimately led to an arrest after what Mounties say began with several concerned citizens calling 9-1-1 to report a black pick-up truck passing others on the shoulder and in the grass, cutting other drivers off, and speeding.

RCMP responded along with the Red Deer Crime Reduction Team (CRT), General Duty, Police Dog Services (PDS), and RCMP Air Support.

Police say information provided by the public led them to identify the truck’s plate as stolen, eventually leading police to locate the vehicle and identify the male driver. The driver then abandoned the truck, which was also determined to be stolen.

Following a brief foot chase, RCMP arrested the male, and then located and seized ammunition from inside the stolen truck, plus a .22 calibre handgun on the male driver.
