Red Deer content creator launches new podcast about music and entertainment

Nov 22, 2022 | 3:00 PM

Local content creator Niek Theelen has recently launched a new podcast-style interview show with musicians and bands from across Alberta.

The show titled Off The Record with Niek Theelen focuses on a new artist each episode, diving into their creative process and personal story behind their music.

In January 2022, the Red Deerian was one of a variety of content creators from Alberta and British Columbia chosen by TELUS STORYHIVE to receive $10,000 in production funding, along with training and support, for their inaugural Voices program.

The Voices program is geared toward emerging content creators who want to jumpstart their creative journey with films covering a range of topics from health & wellness, community profiles, local gems and more.

On Nov. 15, the official premiere was launched for the 82 local series on TELUS Optik TV Channel 345 and STORYHIVE’s YouTube channel.

The Voices program is now in its second year with an additional 98 content creators chosen in September for the Voices 2.0 series.

Since 2013, STORYHIVE has supported over 18,000 local content creators across B.C. and Alberta, providing more than $52 million in production funding. Officials say their goal has been to create a space for storytellers to hone their skills and bring their projects to life. They also aim to give underrepresented communities an opportunity to share their stories on the Canadian Broadcasting System through various programs, production funding, training, mentorship and distribution on TELUS Optik TV, Stream+ and online platforms.
