The Red Deer Rebels returned home to the Centrium on Saturday for the first time since Oct. 28.

After wrapping up a 4-3-0-2 road trip Friday with a shootout loss in Lethbridge, Red Deer (16-3-0-2 coming in) would lose Saturday 4-2 against the Brandon Wheat Kings (7-13-2-0).

For Brandon’s Nicholas Jones, the victory was an impressive one as he stopped 40 of 42 shots, while Rhett Stoesser faced just 21 shots in the Red Deer net.

The night’s result came just eight days after Brandon dispatched of Red Deer 3-2 in the shootout in Manitoba.

Scoring Saturday night got started late in the first period, Brett Hyland (7th) potting one unassisted with just 17 seconds left.

Down 1-0, Carson Birnie (4th) tied it up for Red Deer at 9:27 of the second, Kai Uchacz and Mats Lindgren assisting.

Red Deer took the lead just 2:16 later, as Jace Isley (13th) beat Jones on the power play.

But the lead was short-lived as Nolan Ritchie (9th) equalized for the Wheaties on the power play at 16:48.

After 40 minutes, the score was 2-2.

In the third, there were a few Red Deerians cheering, but they weren’t Rebels fans on this night.

Nate Danielson (10th, 11th) who is from Red Deer, would score twice, including into an empty net, at 11:29 and 18:44 respectively, to seal the deal for Brandon.

Danielson now has 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points in 23 games played this season.

The final score was 4-2 Brandon.
