Red Deer RCMP team up with Community Peace Officers for trail patrols

Jun 24, 2026 | 4:12 PM

Red Deerians can expect to see Red Deer RCMP and City of Red Deer Community Peace Officers on increasing patrols along the city’s trails and green spaces.

With summer in full swing, city officials say more people are using Red Deer’s trail system for walking, cycling, and recreating outdoors. Residents can expect an enhanced police presence throughout the summer to improve safety along the trails.

The city says the increased patrols also support Red Deer’s 2026-2028 Community Policing Plan, where public safety was identified as a top priority. One of the goals under that priority is to increase police visibility and safety in public spaces, including bike and pedestrian trails and green spaces, through increased patrols and police presence.

“Red Deer’s trails are one of our community’s most valued amenities, and people of all ages and abilities deserve to feel safe and welcome on our trail system,” said Constable Sandra Geiger, Red Deer RCMP Public Information Officer. “These patrols are about being visible, preventing issues before they happen, supporting safe use of shared spaces and creating positive opportunities for residents to connect with RCMP and Community Peace Officers.”

The city says Red Deer RCMP and Community Peace Officers will conduct proactive patrols by UTV, bicycle and on foot, allowing officers to access and monitor different areas of the city’s trail network. Patrols will focus on public safety, education, enforcement where required, and positive community engagement.

Trail users are reminded to be courteous and cautious when using shared spaces. This includes keeping to the right, passing safely, keeping pets under control, staying aware of surroundings and reporting suspicious or unsafe activity when appropriate.

Red Deer RCMP and Community Peace Officers look forward to connecting with residents on the trails throughout the summer.
