Six year sentence for man convicted in Caroline area police pursuit where shot was fired
One of two people charged in a police pursuit near Caroline two years ago that saw officers fired at by one of the suspects has been sentenced to six years in jail.
However, James Patrick Metzger, 36, was given 1.5 days credit for his pre-trial custody in Red Deer provincial court last week, leaving him with 1,053 days still to serve behind bars as of Nov. 10, 2022.
Metzger was convicted on counts of flight from a peace officer, operation while prohibited, possess prohibited firearm, and intent to endanger with firearm. He also had his driver’s license suspended for eight years and was given a lifetime firearms prohibition. Eight other counts were withdrawn.
Metzger’s co-accused, Danielle Bishop, 30, had all eight remaining counts against her withdrawn on Sept. 8, 2022.
