Red Deer average asking rent climbs to $1,614 in September

Red Deer saw an uptick in average asking rent in September, according to the National Rent Report by Rentals.ca and Urbanation.

Red Deer was ranked 52nd among 60 Canadian markets for average rent by city and unit type in September. Red Deer was ranked 53rd in August and 52nd in July.

Average rent in Red Deer in September was $1,614 per month, up from $1,573 per month in August.

A one-bedroom unit in Red Deer cost $1,338 per month in September, compared to the $1,345 reported in August. This marked a 0.6 per cent decrease month over month and a 3.1 per cent increase year over year. In July, it cost $1,239 per month for a one-bedroom unit.

In addition, for a two-bedroom unit, it costs an average of $1,503 per month in September compared to $1,515 per month in August. This marked a 0.8 per cent decrease month over month and a 2.0 per cent increase year over year. In July, it cost $1,509 per month for a two-bedroom unit.

Red Deer was also among the top seven with the lowest average asking rent for purpose-built and condo rental apartments in September. Fort McMurray led the way at $1,258 per month, followed by Medicine Hat at $1,339, Lloydminster at $1,379, Saskatoon at $1,397, Regina at $1,400, Grande Prairie at $1,421 and Red Deer at $1,473.

Provincially, Alberta had the third-cheapest rent among Canadian provinces at $1,780 per month for all property types. Alberta saw a 2.6 per cent drop in rent year over year. Only Manitoba ($1,649) and Saskatchewan ($1,490) were cheaper per month.

In Canada, the average asking rent for all residential properties in Canada was $2,034 in September, down 4.2 per cent year-over-year, marking the 24th consecutive month of annual rent decreases.
