Red Deer Polytechnic celebrates Convocation on June 3

May 30, 2022 | 3:29 PM

Hundreds of Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) graduates are set to cross the stage for their Convocation later this week.

The event on Friday, June 3, which represents the institution’s first Convocation as Red Deer Polytechnic, will take place on main campus at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

This year, more than 1,480 students are eligible to graduate, according to RDP officials, with almost 500 applying to attend the Convocation ceremonies to celebrate their successes on June 3.

In addition to the wide range of credentials students will receive, this year marks the first graduating classes from Red Deer Polytechnic’s own degrees, including the Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Applied Arts in Animation and Visual Effects.

During the afternoon ceremony, the Governor General’s Academic Medal (Collegiate Bronze Level) will be presented to the student with the highest academic standing after completing the final year of a diploma-level post-secondary program.

Red Deer Polytechnic will also bestow an Honorary Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree upon an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of social, cultural or economic development that has had significant impact on the campus community, central Alberta and beyond.

This deserving recipient will provide a Convocation address to graduates at both the morning and afternoon ceremonies, note RDP officials.
