Province announces funding to improve community facilities across Alberta
Alberta’s government says it is investing $4.5 million to upgrade or build 84 public-use facilities in communities across the province
The Community Facility Enhancement Program provides matching funding to help non-profits leverage other sources of funding to upgrade, redevelop, acquire or build public-use facilities.
Government officials say the program’s small grant stream provides funding to projects that support thriving communities and economic recovery. The grants are said to support the vital work of non-profits with up to $125,000 for their public-use facilities, including community halls, parks and playgrounds, natural areas, campsites, sports fields or outdoor pools and rinks.
“Non-profit organizations are stewards of many public facilities that are essential to healthy, vibrant communities across Alberta. The Community Facility Enhancement Program is helping non-profits extend the lifespan of public facilities and creating more spaces where people can connect and improve their overall well-being. These projects are also creating jobs and local revenue in communities across Alberta,” said Ron Orr, Minister of Culture, on Monday.
