One Of Three People Charged

Red Deer woman charged in Lacombe County vehicle theft incident

A Red Deer woman is one of three people facing charges after Mounties recovered a stolen vehicle in eastern Alberta this month.

On March 1, 2022 Coronation RCMP received a report of a vehicle in the ditch and suspicious activity in the County of Paintearth. Police say the incident was reported to Coronation RCMP due to recent property crime in the area.

Three suspects were said to be observed leaving the vehicle on foot while community members watched them at a distance. Mounties say checks on the vehicle showed that it was stolen out of Lacombe County two days prior. Coronation RCMP members were able to intercept the three suspects, however, and arrest them without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Coronation RCMP have charged a 42-year-old man from Coronation with five counts of failing to comply with his house arrest, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

A 33-year-old Edmonton man has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, while a 35-year-old Red Deer woman has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

“In a small community, the problems associated with property related crimes are amplified,” reads a statement from RCMP. “As part of our Rural Crime Reduction Strategy we encourage members of the public/businesses to report suspicious activity. Although we don’t encourage members of the public to get involved personally in this incident, their observations were critical in locating and arresting the suspects.”

Members of the public who want to report suspicious activity or property related crime in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.
