Woman suffers significant trauma in Ponoka assault

Four people are facing charges after an assault in Ponoka this week.

On Jan. 19, Ponoka RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a serious assault on 47 Street in Ponoka. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the 41-year-old victim who had significant trauma to her face and body.

As a result of the initial investigation, Mounties arrested four individuals, all of whom were known to the victim.

A 26-year-old woman and 29-year-old woman, both from Ponoka, along with a 22-year-old Ponoka man and 19-year-old man from Maskwacis are all facing charges.

Police say all of the accused have been released with conditions to appear in Ponoka provincial court on Feb. 11.

“In spite of this vicious assault, persons crimes are down 15 per cent in Ponoka over the last year, “ said Staff Sergeant Christopher Smiley of the Ponoka RCMP. “In instances where individuals are released with conditions pending their court appearance, our members will continue to robustly monitor the accused’s to promote compliance with those conditions and to reduce crime.”
