Alberta over 61,000 active cases of COVID-19

There are currently 748 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, a one-day increase of 40.

Of that total, there are 82 people in ICU, up two.

Of the 666 people hospitalized but not in ICU, 224 are completely unvaccinated, 30 have received one dose, and 269 have two doses. Another 143 have had a third dose.

Of the 82 in ICU, 54 are completely unvaccinated, 5 have one dose, and 15 have two doses. Another 8 have had a third dose.

Meantime, the active caseload is now an Alberta record 61,229, up 2,616 from Tuesday. This with the province adding 6,789 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

There were 17,815 tests conducted in the past day, for one-day and seven-day positivity rates over 38 per cent.

There are now 8,313 active cases which are variants.

A total of 16,314 recorded cases are confirmed to be the Omicron variant, up 1,093 from Tuesday.

There have been 15 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s death toll from the virus now to 3,367.

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer added 113 new cases of COVID-19 in the last day for a pandemic total of 10,872.

With 57 new recoveries, and 9,681 total, there are now 1,107 active cases of COVID-19 in the city, up 56 from Tuesday. It’s another new record set since eclipsing the previous high of 915 on Jan. 10. That record was set Sept. 27 at the height of the fourth wave.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 84, that number unchanged since Dec. 7.

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,430 active cases as of Wednesday, up 138 in the last day.

There are 81 hospitalizations in our zone, down four, and seven people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two.

Central Zone has recorded 422 deaths, including two in the last day — a female in her 80s, and a male in his 70s.

VACCINATIONS

*Fully vaccinated means two doses

Alberta has delivered 7,954,703 vaccine doses as of Jan. 11, up 27,021 in the last day.

Of the 5+ population, 84.9 per cent has received at least one dose (79.8% total population), while 78.0 per cent is now fully vaccinated (27.1% total population).

A total of 1,196,381 booster (third) shots have been administered. This means 28.8 per cent of the eligible population has received a booster, while 27.1 per cent of all Albertans have a booster.

In Red Deer, 77,708 (77.4% eligible/73.0% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 75.
