Red Deer with 801 active COVID-19 cases, three more deaths

Red Deer has 801 active cases of COVID-19, up 23 from Monday’s update.

That’s the highest since the city had 802 on May 14. Red Deer peaked at 911 on May 8.

Recoveries are listed at 6,541 – up 41 from Monday, while the number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is 7,396.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 54, with three reported over the past 24 hours.

The entire Central Zone has 3,666 active cases as of Tuesday, up 115 from Monday. There are 171 hospitalizations, up nine, and 19 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one.

The zone has had 227 deaths linked to the virus so far, with 12 reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Alberta Health confirmed 1,519 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 20,917.

With 13,597 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 11.2 per cent.

Of the currently active cases, 8,842 are confirmed as variants of concern, or 42.3 per cent of all active cases.

Provincially, 996 patients are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, up 42 from Monday, while 222 of those patients are in ICU – up six from the day before.

There have been 29 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the COVID-related death toll in Alberta to 2,574.

Currently, there are 5,690 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 5,487 in the Calgary zone, 3,877 in the North zone, 2,170 in the South zone, and 27 additional active cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 5,853,057 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Sept. 20.

Of the 12+ population, 81.4 per cent has received at least one dose (69.3% total population), while 72.8 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (61.9% total population).

In Red Deer, 67,074 (73.1% eligible/63.0% total) people have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine. Meanwhile, 59,715 residents (65.1%/56.1%) are fully vaccinated.
