Special Recognition

Innisfail to be celebrated as ‘Dementia Friendly Community’

Sep 1, 2021 | 4:29 PM

Innisfail-based Community Partners in Action is one of two Alberta organizations being recognized with a special award Sept. 2.

Along with the Wabasca/Desmarais Healthcare Centre Nursing Team, Community Partners in Action is being recognized with a 2021 RhPAP Rhapsody Health-care Heroes Award.

The organization’s Dementia Friendly Community Initiative offers varied programming for community members living with dementia and prepares first responders to better deal with dementia patients, and engages health professionals and the broader community in education sessions about how to recognize, interact with, and support those living with dementia.

Plus, in response to the challenges presented by COVID-19, officials say Community Partners in Action has also been able to build project momentum through their virtual program, Innisfail Connects.

In celebration of Community Partners in Action, a free community BBQ will take place Sept. 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Innisfail Library Learning Centre, followed by a celebration of Innisfail’s achievements in becoming a “Dementia Friendly Community”.

Founded in 2002, the Rhapsody Awards are intended to recognize the individuals, teams and communities that make significant civic and healthcare contributions in rural Alberta.
