Jul 5, 2021 | 9:59 AM

The Ponoka Aquaplex returns to full programming and regular hours as of July 5.

“We’re excited to finally be able to once again offer Ponoka residents full programming and regular hours of operation at our newly refurbished facility,” said Andrew Jones, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities.

Beginning on July 5, Aquaplex hours will be from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Town notes that citizens who wish to wear a mask are welcome to do so, but Aquaplex users are asked to remove masks before entering the pools, hot tub or sauna.

Signage related to the pandemic at the Aquaplex and other Town facilities are being removed over the coming week.

The Town also notes that pre-registration is no longer required for drop-in programming at the Aquaplex.

Registration is now open for swimming lessons, babysitting courses, the Stay Safe course, Junior Lifeguard Club, and the Bronze Medallion & Cross.

Visit ponoka.ca to register or phone the Aquaplex at 403-783-0131.

Drowning Prevention Week is also being observed at the Aquaplex this month, July 18-24 with a daily ‘Swim to Survive Skills Challenge’ from 1-4 p.m., a colouring contest and a Toonie Swim on July 21 from 1-4 p.m.

Over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year, a release notes.

“We expect some people will want to continue wearing masks and physical distancing for a while yet depending on their comfort level,” said CAO Sandra Lund. “We encourage citizens and visitors at all Town facilities to please be respectful of people’s personal choices to still wear a mask or distance from others as a safety measure.”

The Ponoka Town Office, located on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre, reopened to public access in mid-June.Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
