third full weekend each month

Kick it to the Curb becomes monthly event

May 11, 2021 | 12:44 PM

Kick it to the Curb returns to Red Deer this weekend providing residents the opportunity to find a new home for unwanted and unused items.

This year, on the third full weekend of the month from May to October, residents are encouraged to kick their unwanted items to the curb.

“Residents love the Kick it to the Curb program and we are happy to bring it back again for 2021,” said Janet Whitesell, Waste Management Superintendent. “Residents need to remember to follow all public heath restrictions when participating in Kick it to the Curb, especially not participating if any member of the household is feeling ill.”

The first weekend is May 15 and 16. Items should be clearly identified with a “free” label so others can find a new life for them.

Participants are encouraged to thoroughly clean items, use good hand hygiene and maintain at least a two metre distance from anyone outside of their household.

Popular items include books, DVDs, furniture and tools. To see a link to items that should be avoided, like child car seats, visit reddeer.ca/kickit.

Similar to past years, Waskasoo Environmental Education Society will be offering their Trash to Treasure Swap Meet. Anyone who would rather not put small, unwanted items on their curb or whose home doesn’t have a curb can bring their items to Kerry Wood Nature Centre. The Trash to Treasure Swap Meet will be held the same six weekends throughout the year.

Kick It to the Curb will also happen June 19-20, July 17-18, August 21-22, September 18-19, and October 16-17.
