Jan 31, 2021 | 12:00 PM

Once again, BIG 105, 106-7 REWIND Radio and rdnewsNOW are bringing you the annual #CallForACause Radiothon in support of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation (RDRHF).

This year’s event will be a little different, with radio personalities not on site at Red Deer Regional Hospital due to pandemic restrictions.

It runs Feb. 19 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Here’s how to contribute:

-Call the foundation at 403-343-4773

-Text the radio stations at 403-343-3106 or 403-346-0105.

-Visit www.rdrhfoundation.com/radiothon

This year, donations will be put toward the purchase of cardiac monitors which allow medical professionals to better monitor and assess vital signs and cardiac rhythms of ICU patients while in transport.

“There’s no denying that the pandemic has affected our health care system. We’ve seen outbreaks, changes to program access, postponed procedures, and visitor restrictions. It has been tough on our hospital,” says Manon Therriault, CEO, RDRHF.

“At the foundation, we want to make sure every health care professional has the tools in order to do what they need to do.”

Asked how doctors and nurses are holding up through the slog of a pandemic that’s nearing one year in Alberta, Therriault admits it has been very challenging.

“This is not something they’re used to dealing with, but they are working really hard. Not everybody knows this, but tax dollars only pay for a certain portion of hospital operations,” she says. “Our community is getting bigger and we’re serving over half a million people in the region, so the demand is getting bigger. We need to make sure they have what they need and that’s why the foundation is here to fill that gap.

“The bare minimum is not good enough for people in Central Zone. We want to make sure we have the best care possible.”
