A newly appointed Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has been named for the Town of Ponoka.

During its regular meeting last week, Ponoka town council voted unanimously to officially appoint Sandra Lund as the new CAO.

Lund has been acting as the Interim CAO since council appointed her to the role last September after council voted unanimously to terminate the employment of former CAO Albert Flootman without cause.

“Council felt it was time to elevate Ms. Lund to the next level,” said Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett, in a statement on Monday. “After seeing her in action these past four months, she has impressed council with her leadership abilities. She’s very intuitive and responsive to the needs of the community, and she moves council’s direction along very expediently.”

Bonnett added, “Given that it’s an election year. The current council also felt it would be a significant benefit for a new council to have a strong CAO already in place to guide new council members through the transition process after they’re elected next fall,” added Bonnett.

Lund was born and raised in the Ponoka area and has moved up through the Town of Ponoka organization over the last 10 years.

“There’s a lot of value in having a person with that kind of depth and knowledge of the organization leading our administrative team,” said Bonnett.

Lund’s appointment took effect immediately following council’s approval of the motion on January 12.

“It’s a great privilege and an honour to serve the Town in this capacity and I am grateful to council for the opportunity to continue leading such a capable and hardworking administrative team,” said Lund. “We look forward to achieving great accomplishments for our community over the coming year and into the future.”
