ASIRT investigating officer involved fatal shooting in Grande Prairie

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called into investigate an officer involved shooting on the city’s north end Tuesday night that has left one person dead.

Officers were called at 8:15 p.m. to the area of 100 Street and 132 Avenue.

RCMP officers arrived at the location and upon the investigation an altercation broke out between the officers and a male suspect.

Police say the events from the altercation between the suspect and officers led to the officers firing their weapons.

The suspect sustained life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and ASIRT has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the actions of police.

The RCMP say that it will not comment further on the incident as the investigation remains ongoing.
