Red Deer with 158 active COVID-19 cases

Alberta announced another 1,077 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

That’s out of 15,932 tests completed over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 6.8 per cent.

There are now 14,052 active cases in the province, an increase of 333.

383 people are in hospital, an increase of 28, including 84 in intensive care, an increase of 13.

Another 10 deaths from COVID-19 were reported to bring Alberta’s total to 510.

Red Deer has 158 active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, an increase of nine. There have now been 304 recovered cases, an increase of 14, as the total number of cases attributed to the city rose by 13 to 462.

Red Deer County has 53 active cases, an increase of three, while Sylvan Lake has 41, up five.

Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House) has 14 active cases, an increase of two over the last 24 hours.

Lacombe County has 31 active cases, an increase of one, while the city of Lacombe has 23, up four.

Ponoka County added three more active cases to sit with 223.

Mountain View County added one active case for a total of 11. Olds added two more and now has 17, and Kneehill County added one more for a total of 14.

Starland County has four active cases and the County of Stettler has two.

There are now 947 active cases across the Central zone, and 20 hospitalizations, including five in intensive care.

Red Deer and surrounding regions remain on the provincial “Watch” list and is in enhanced status. In enhanced status, risk levels require enhanced public health measures to control the spread and are informed by local context.

Regions are placed on the list when they have a rate of more than 50 active cases per 100,000 population. This is the case for Red Deer (149.1), Red Deer County (160.5), Sylvan Lake (243.6), Clearwater County/Rocky Mountain House (69), Lacombe County (142.3), Lacombe (123.4), Ponoka County (881.9), Kneehill County (128.3) and Olds (136.5).

As of Thursday there are 180 schools in the province where outbreaks have been declared. Alberta Health’s threshold for declaring an outbreak in school is two cases being in a school while infectious within 14 days.

Central Middle School reported two cases this week, while Don Campbell Elementary and Hunting Hills High School have each reported one.

Lacombe Composite High School reported three more cases on Wednesday in addition to three cases last week.
