The unofficial results are in for the Town of Sylvan Lake byelection, and Sean McWade has been voted in.

With 578 votes, McWade was declared the winner to join town council after polls closed on election night on Monday. Finishing below McWade were Ruby Cole-Ellis (342), Juanna Thompson (334), Joan Barnes (198), Tim Nelson (123), and Tracy Palibroda (29).

“Thank you, Sylvan Lake! The unofficial results are in, and I’m truly honoured that you’ve trusted me with a seat on council. I can’t wait to get to work,” he wrote in a post on his Facebook page.

“Thank you to my wife, Meghan, and to my daughters for putting up with a very busy few weeks (and to the girls for their excellent sign and door hanger work). Thank you to everyone who had me over for coffee, put up a sign, shared a post, reminded a neighbour to vote, or stopped me at the grocery store to chat. This was a team effort, and I’m so grateful.
