Trial ordered in 2019 campground shooting

A 21-year-old Rocky Mountain House man charged with attempted murder after a man was shot repeatedly at a Hummingbird Backcountry campground in 2019 has been ordered to stand trial.

A preliminary hearing wrapped up last Friday for Edward McKenzie. Dates for his trial have not yet been scheduled.

Mounties were called on the afternoon of June 29, 2019 about a male who had allegedly been shot multiple times at a campground and taken to an area hospital in a private vehicle. The victim was later airlifted to hospital in Edmonton.

A suspect was arrested soon after.

Police said that the suspect and victim involved in the shooting were known to each other and that there was no risk to the public.

McKenzie is also charged with possession of a firearm without a licence and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
