Alberta surpasses 8,000 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta added another 713 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday to bring the overall total to 34,873.

The number of tests completed over the past 24 hours, along with the number of people tested, remains unavailable due to ongoing technical difficulties with Alberta Health’s website.

The province now has 8,090 active cases of the virus, an increase of 125.

Alberta has had 26,407 recovered cases, which is 581 more than Monday.

There is now a record 207 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, 15 more than Monday. That includes 43 in intensive care, also a record and an increase of four over Monday.

An additional seven deaths from COVID-19 were reported to bring Alberta’s total to 376.

The Central Zone has 317 active cases as of Tuesday, 968 recoveries, four hospitalizations and nine deaths (unchanged).

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer dropped by three on Tuesday – going from 94 to 91.

Red Deer has now had 190 recoveries out of 271 total cases.

Red Deer County has eight active cases as of Tuesday while Lacombe County remains with three.

Lacombe added one active case to sit with 20 and Sylvan Lake held steady with 11. Both communities join Red Deer on the province’s COVID-19 watch list.

Rocky Mountain House (Clearwater County) remains with six active cases and Olds remains with one.

Both Mountain View County with 15 active cases and Kneehill County with 10 remain on the province’s watch list, as does Ponoka County which dropped three active cases to sit with 57.

Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in Red Deer reported two more cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. That makes four cases at the school this week (two were reported on Friday) and its fifth case overall after one was reported in early October.

Principal Chris Good told parents on Tuesday that transmission of the two latest cases is likely to have occurred outside of school.

“Our school administration has contacted parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors who may have been in close contact with the cases in our school,” he said in a letter.

Clive School northeast of Red Deer reported its second case of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
