Sylvan Lake RCMP searching for carjacking suspect

RCMP are on the hunt for a male suspect following a carjacking on Highway 11 near Sylvan Lake Monday night.

Staff Sgt. Jeff McBeth with the Sylvan Lake RCMP Detachment says officers responded around 9:00 p.m. to a section of the highway between Highways 20 and 781 where an adult male was assaulted before having his vehicle stolen.

McBeth says no shots were fired during the incident. He also notes that a STARS helicopter in the area at the time had nothing to do with the incident.

“I am aware of the strong public interest that is associated to this event last night,” says McBeth. “However, I can say that there was no danger to the public at any point during this investigation – specific to STARS.”

The investigation into the carjacking incident continues.
