AQUAPLEX REOPENS WITH RESTRICTIONS

Ponoka Aquaplex and racquetball courts reopen to public use July 13

PONOKA- The Town of Ponoka Aquaplex and racquetball courts (located at the Ponoka Arena Complex) are reopening for public use beginning on July 13 with restrictions in place due to COVID-19.

The Aquaplex will reopen in phases, with a modified schedule, beginning with lane swimming available in the main pool and deep tank from July 13 – 31. The Aquaplex wading pool will also reopen on July 13.

Anyone wishing to lane swim or use the wading pool must first phone the pool to register at 403-783-0131. Lane swimming and wading pool access at the Aquaplex will be offered from Monday to Friday at intervals beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m. each day.

A copy of the schedule is available on the Town website at www.ponoka.ca. Click ‘Aquaplex’ under ‘Popular Pages’, or phone the pool for more information.

Occupancy limits will be in place for the pools and deck, along with one-way traffic measures for the lobby and pool deck. Only swimmers from the same household or cohort will be permitted in the same lane with a limit of up to five people per lane. Swimmers must stay within the confines of their lane. The wading pool will be open for use by one family (from the same household) or one cohort of up to 10 people at a time in keeping with physical distancing requirements.

There will be limited access to change rooms. Guests are required to come dressed for swimming and arrive no more than five minutes before their scheduled times. Swimmers will be required to have a soapy shower on the pool deck before entering the pools.

Beginning August 1, water fitness and public swimming are expected to be added to the programming available at the Aquaplex on a modified schedule.

Racquetball Courts Racquetball courts (located at the Ponoka Arena Complex) will also be reopening for bookings starting on July 13. Pre-booking of courts is required.

The remainder of the Arena Complex will remain closed to the public until the fall
