NHL Legends of Toronto charity hockey game cancelled

The upcoming NHL Legends of Toronto Charity Hockey Game and Banquet in support of Youth HQ in Red Deer has been cancelled.

The event had been scheduled for March 15, however local organizers say a decision beyond their control has resulted in it not going ahead.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the NHL Legends of Hockey have informed us of their decision to cancel the event on March 15,” Youth HQ says in a release. “The cancellation is ultimately irreversible, as the decision is not within our control.”

Youth HQ, which is the home of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer and District and Boys & Girls Club of Red Deer and District, says it is incredibly disappointed in this decision.

“The event organizers have engaged in a tremendous amount of planning and soliciting of support for this event over the past six months,” they say. “The focus of the March 15 event was to raise funds through player pledging, as well as ticket sales and sponsorship, for our programs in nine central Alberta communities.

“As a result of this unforeseen decision, Youth HQ in tandem with these programs will suffer some financial loss.”

Youth HQ says all funds received, including donations and sponsorships, will be returned to our supporters and participants in a timely manner. Those who purchased tickets for the event will also receive a refund.

“We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the public who have purchased tickets for this event in support of our causes.”
