August home sales below average in Red Deer

Red Deer saw a sharp downward shift in home sales during the month of August, according to the Central Alberta Realtors Association.

Year over year, sales were were down just under 18 per cent with 353 units purchased.

Year-to-date, home sales total 2,524, down 10 per cent for the first eight months of the year compared to 2018.

Breaking August down further, residential sales were down just 3.4 per cent, while residential listings slumped 16.9 per cent.

Dollar value of all units sold fell $100.6 million, or 20.4 per cent compared to the same month last year. By contrast, the value of all homes sold in Alberta last month decreased just 4.7 per cent.

August 2019 was the slowest for residential home sales of any August since 2010.
