Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is gearing up for the new school year with a current tally of 10,436 students.

There will also be 45 new teachers and 31 new support staff in local schools.

“We believe that this school year will be great for our growing division and filled with many blessings,” said Vice-Chair Trustee Murray Hollman.. “The Board of Trustees’ priorities this year includes faith, inclusion, student success, board governess/effectiveness, stakeholder/community engagement and innovation. In addition to this, the Board will continue to advocate for our schools.”

Hollman also noted excitement around phase three of the modernization of St. Patrick’s Community School, which is slated for completion this November. Phase three includes early learning classrooms, and upgrades to the front office and entryway.

Completion of the St. Patrick’s project also means classrooms will no longer needed for that school’s students at St. Teresa of Avila.

Work is also being done on the division’s cultural building to pull out drywall and remove asbestos. Work began three weeks behind schedule due to delays in obtaining permits, the division notes in a release. Work should be done by next spring.

As for the board, Anne Marie Watson will remain chairperson for the 2019-2020 school year.
