Recovery College Comes to CMHA Central Alberta
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Central Alberta Region is set to launch its own Recovery College programming on September 4.
The Government of Alberta has committed $3 million to support the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Calgary Region in building a provincial infrastructure that supports and advances Recovery Colleges and Peer Support across Alberta, and to help increase access to mental health and addiction recovery, prevention and promotion services.
“We are really proud to be able to offer courses to community members that are barrier-free and that meet people at any level of need,” shared Christine Stewart, CMHA Central Alberta Executive Director. “Whether struggling with a significant diagnosis or just wanting to improve overall quality of mental wellness, we have courses, facilitators, and peers of every background so that we can connect with people on multiple levels.”
CMHA officials say Recovery College offers courses to help people recognize and develop their own resourcefulness and awareness in order to support themselves or their loved one’s recovery journey. Courses are co-developed and co-delivered in partnership with people with personal experience of a mental health or substance use concern or are supporting a loved one.
